Our concept of family naturally includes our spouse, mother and father, children, aunts, uncles and in-laws. However, sometimes we also consider our pets to be a part of the family, even to the point that we would like them to be a part of our family photos! Sometimes, we even want them to be a part of our engagement and wedding photos too! As a professional photographer, I have on many occasions done photo shoots with families and their pets or even a single owner and his or her pet. It can be a challenge to take great photos with pets because they don't even know they are in a photo shoot! Nevertheless, I am always very patient and get the job done correctly and to the satisfaction of my clients! This couple in these photos wanted an engagement photo shoot and they brought their dog along for the photo. I have to say that their dog was exceptionally easy to work with. Maybe I should take back what I wrote earlier because this dog seemed like he know he was getting photographed! So whether it be family photography, engagement photography, wedding photography, individual portraits, or any other type of portrait, pets are welcome with Sviatlana Photography!

A marriage proposal during a couples photo session.

Hello everyone! I hope you are all well! I just wanted to talk to the guys a little bit. Are you considering proposing to that special someone in your life? Here's an idea that you may not have considered. You could propose to her during a couples photo shoot. In my photography career, this has happened while I took couples portraits on multiple occasions. Sometimes the groom-to-be lets me know about his plan beforehand and sometimes leaves it as a surprise. I always love doing couples photography during these kinds of events because it is amazing to see the future bride's face light up with happiness and love! When you do this you automatically transform an already special event - a photo shoot to capture the love between you and your girlfriend - into a fantastic event; your bride and groom portrait session (perhaps once of several)! Think about the memories, captured in portraits, of her face the moment you ask her the question and present her with a ring! I can promise you that it suddenly becomes amazing! The photo here shows the most recent time this occurred during one of my portrait sessions. I can still remember how the tone of the photo session changed once he asked her to marry him and she accepted. The rest of the photo session was one of the happiest that I have ever been a part of or seen! So take it as a suggestion from me, that proposing during a couples photo shoot can have truly fantastic results.

Art of colors in a wedding photography

Today I would like to talk a little about the color in your photographs. Believe it or not the color scheme a wedding photographer chooses to capture in your portraits can make as much difference as the background, the wedding dress, your smiling faces, and the lighting. We know from basic art class about the warm colors, cool colors, and the winter, spring, summer, and autumn colors. Using these combinations can also be used in photography to convey feeling! In the end, your portraits can be made more memorable because of the feelings the colors bring! When I can, I select the color schemes in my photography carefully to enhance the feelings and expressions of the bride and groom. Here are three examples about how I accomplish this.

In the first example of a wedding portrait, I used a very earthy color scheme with delicious browns, subtle greens, fluffy whites, and tans. Combined with the groom's suit, the bride's gorgeous gown, and their beautiful expressions, these colors produce a very classical look to their portrait giving it the feeling of eternal love!

I used a strong, vibrant green background in the second example of a wedding portrait to match the powerful expressions of love of the bride and groom in the photo. This spring color choice brings out the bride's eyes, hair, dress and skin tones, while matching the intensity of the groom's suit. Together, it conveys a feeling of intense, strong and vibrant love!

Finally, in the bride portrait above, I used a combination of yellow and golden hues by using just the right background during sunset. This complements the bride's beautiful, happy smile. Also, it matches her bouquet, her dress, and contrasts with her hair and eyes. Altogether the colors give you a warm and happy feeling; it's exactly the feeling you might imagine that the bride has during her wedding!

Having fun during a wedding photo session is an essential part of your wedding day!

Preparing for your wedding can be very stressful. You need to select your dress, pick out the cake, the band, worry about the decorations and the catering, pick out just the right venue, get all the paperwork in order, and of course working with the photographer. Some couples become so wrapped up in preparing for their wedding that they forget that the occasion is supposed to be fun for them! Remember to relax and enjoy! Believe it or not, if you spent more time enjoying it, your wedding portraits will be better because the photographer will have more opportunities to capture you while you are smiling and having fun!

I try to make the process preparing for the photographic aspects of my clients' weddings as easy and painless as possible so that they need not worry so much. I spend the time to explain how I will visit the venue, pick out the best angles and spots from which to take photos. I will also go over my client's itinerary for their wedding day so that I can be in the right place at the right time to get the most memorable portraits. I listen to my clients to see what kind of themes they want to have in their photos and what they would like me to focus on. I do my best to take the difficulty out of wedding photography for my clients so they can focus on having fun and enjoying one of the most special days of their lives!

Preparation for an upcoming wedding photo session

May 24, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

People have asked me what I do to prepare for an upcoming wedding photo shoot. Wedding photography is my passion so naturally, there is an enormous amount of work I put into creating absolutely the best photos that I can for your wedding! If I didn't I would not feel comfortable calling myself a professional wedding photographer. So it all begins with a consultation with the engaged couple. I find out what style of wedding they are having (will it be a classic wedding, more modern, or perhaps something else); the location, time of year, and time of day (these give me an idea of what lighting conditions will be like); the general schedule for the wedding, when and where the reception will be, and if the couple has set aside specific time for portraits; how many people will be attending, what relatives will be there, and where they will be sitting (as well as where the bride and groom will be sitting); and what the bride's and bride's maids dresses look like (it make a difference in how I set up my photo shots). I will also discuss with the couple in our consultation if they want any specific types of photos, such as beach wedding photography.

After this, I visit the location to find all the right angles for the photos I will take, learn about the lighting conditions so I can choose just the right equipment and lenses for the wedding and get a feel about how my photo taking activities will fit with the schedule. After this, I plan, given the wedding schedule, the best times for bride and groom portraits, family portraits, action shots (taken of you and your guests while you celebrate), and of course the ceremony itself. In a follow-up consultation with you before the wedding, we will discuss my plans for photographing your wedding and you can voice any concerns you have, make suggestions, or discuss anything that may have been left out. Then everything will be ready for photography of your wedding! I'll be there bright and early ready to create photos that you and your children and family will cherish forever!

So there is a great deal of preparation I put into getting ready for your wedding! I do so because I truly believe in providing you the very best that I can!
